How to add your card to Cloudflare (Workers Paid, domains)

Cloudflare’s paid products (Workers Paid, domain registration and renewal and more) charge the payment method saved on your account, in USD. Add the card first, then buy what you need. Card number, expiry, CVC and billing address are in your card email.

A Cloudflare account can hold up to 2 payment methods. You can add a backup card; Cloudflare uses it automatically if the primary one fails.

Steps

  1. 1

    Open payment methods

Sign in at dash.cloudflare.com, go to Billing → Subscriptions, and click Add Payment Method in the Payment methods panel.

  2. 2

    Enter the card

Choose card and enter the card number, expiry, CVC and billing address from your card email. You may be asked whether the account is personal or business (for tax). Complete any issuer verification that pops up.

  3. 3

Subscribe to Workers Paid or buy a domain

Upgrade Workers from the Workers plans page — Cloudflare states a minimum of $5 per month per account, with usage beyond the included amount billed on top. For domains, search under Register domains, pick the term, fill the contact details in plain ASCII characters, and confirm; registration can take up to about 30 seconds.

    Managing it later

Changing the card and viewing invoices are under Billing. Renewals charge the saved payment method, so keep enough on the card.

Suggested balance (tax included)

  • Workers Paid: at least $5/month (official pricing) — keep $6 or more on the card; usage overages are charged with the invoice. Cloudflare charges on our cards include amounts like $5.00 and $5.50.
  • Domains: the price depends on the extension and term shown on the registration page; keep that plus $1. Domain-type charges on our cards include $8.20 and $10.50.
  • When you add the card you may see a few $0 entries (we have seen 5 on our cards) — usually the card check when it is added, not a real charge.
If the balance is short, the charge is declined — and a failed charge still costs $1.

Common reasons it fails

Cloudflare on our cards: 13 charges, 11 succeeded and 2 failed (small sample, so counts):

  • 1: short balance — the charge was more than the card held. Top up first, then pay the invoice again under Billing.
  • 1: the card was already cancelled (shows as Blocked) but Cloudflare kept charging it. Switch to your current card under Billing → Payment methods.
  • Across all our cards and platforms in October, about 69% of failed charges were a short balance, about 12% a cancelled card still being charged, about 9% a merchant type outside what the card supports, and about 9% a wrong expiry date (several wrong tries lock it for a while).
If a charge fails, top up first and then retry once — don’t keep clicking. Every charge costs $1, failed ones too (at most 3 failed-charge fees per card per month). Top-ups usually arrive within 5–10 minutes and the card number stays the same.
