Google One or Google AI Pro Renewal Payment Failed? Why Google Retries About Every 12 Hours, What the Grace Period and Account Hold Mean, Where to Change the Card, and How Much to Keep on It (79 Google One Charges on Our Cards) — 2026

Google One renewal failed, or the Google AI Pro monthly charge was declined? On our own prepaid cards it was usually the balance: 35 of 48 declined Google One charges were for not enough money. What Google does after a failed renewal (grace period, account hold, cancellation), why Google retries about every 12 hours, why yen or Hong Kong dollar plans cost a different amount in US dollars each month, where to change the card (one.google.com → Settings → Change payment method → Google Play), and how much to keep on the card. Real data: 79 Google One records on 17 cards, 29 successful charges and 48 declines. Updated October 2026.

Google One renewal failed, short answer: in most cases the card did not have enough money for that month’s charge. When the balance is short, Google tries the same charge again roughly every 12 hours. Put the money on the card during that time and the next retry goes through; you do not need to subscribe again. If the card has been closed, change the card in Google Play’s subscription settings. The simplest fix is to have the balance ready two days before the renewal date.

Written by the Pink Card team (pinkcard.cc). Google’s rules are taken from the Google One Help Center (“Change your card & fix payment issues”, “Get help with payment issues for Google One storage”), the Google Play Help Center (“Change the payment method for a subscription”, “Learn about subscription grace periods”, “Fix payment issues on your account”) and the US Google One plans page, checked on 2026-10-25; menu names can differ slightly in your account. Charge data covers every Google One record on our own cards from 2026-04-29 to 2026-10-27; it shows merchant name, amount and result only. Pink Card fees are those shown on the purchase page on 2026-10-28. Pink Card is not affiliated with Google.

What Google One charges, and when

  • Google AI Pro, Google AI Plus and the storage plans are all billed through Google One, using the payments profile on your Google account. On the card statement the merchant shows as GOOGLE *Google One, Google One Mountain View or similar.
  • US monthly prices on the Google One plans page: Basic (100 GB) $1.99, Google AI Plus $9.99, Google AI Pro $19.99. Other countries are priced in local currency.
  • The charge comes on the same day each month at almost the same time. On our cards, one card was charged $19.99 on the 9th of every month at 07:51 UTC; two cards billed in yen were charged on the 10th at 03:37 UTC.
  • Plans priced in yen or Hong Kong dollars are converted to US dollars on the day of the charge. The same ¥2,900 plan was charged between $18.34 and $19.34 across 5 successful months on our cards, so plan for the higher figure.

What happens after a failed renewal (Google’s rules)

  1. There may be a grace period first: you keep your benefits and Google Play keeps retrying the payment. Google says the grace period varies by subscription, from 0 to 30 days.
  2. If it is still unpaid after that, the subscription goes into account hold, and you cannot use the benefits during the hold.
  3. Google Play says that if the payment method is declined or has insufficient funds, the subscription may be cancelled, and you would have to subscribe again.
  4. When a storage plan lapses, files over the free limit are not deleted, but you cannot add new ones: Gmail cannot send or receive, Drive stops uploading and syncing, and Photos stops backing up.
Google Play says it may place an authorization on the card up to 48 hours before a new billing period starts. Do not wait for the renewal day to add money; have the balance ready two days early.

What we saw on our own cards

We checked every Google One record on our cards from 2026-04-29 to 2026-10-27: 79 records on 17 cards. 12 cards were billed in US dollars, 3 in yen, 2 in Hong Kong dollars and 1 in Singapore dollars (one card had both a dollar and a yen charge). 29 charges went through (14 cards, $422.00 in total), 48 were declined (7 cards), one $1.99 charge is still pending and one $1.00 charge was reversed. In the last 30 days, 5 cards paid 7 Google One charges ($53.05) and 2 cards had 10 declines.

  • Of the 48 declines, 35 were about balance: 23 “cumulative amount limit”, 6 “maximum single transaction value”, 6 “monthly transaction amount limit”. All three mean the charge was larger than what the card had left.
  • 11 declines were “Blocked”, on 4 cards that are all closed now. Google kept charging the closed card every month because it was still saved as the payment method.
  • 2 declines said “MCC restricted”. In both cases the same charge went through 12 hours later on the next retry.

When the balance is short, Google retries about every 12 hours (UTC)

  • One card’s $19.99 renewal was declined at 07:51 on October 9, then at about 07:51 and 19:51 every day: 9 declines in 4 days. The owner topped up $30 at 09:52 on October 13, and the $19.99 went through at 20:17 the same day. The subscription carried on.
  • Another card was declined at about 14:58 on August 21, then at about 02:58 and 14:58 every day: 14 declines in 7 days. No money was added, and the card was later closed.
  • A card billed in yen first got a one-off charge of ¥36,400 ($237.97), more than it held, declined 6 times. After the plan changed to ¥2,900 a month, it was declined 4 more times for the monthly limit and went through on the third day. Clicking again right after a decline only adds more declined attempts.
  • Once a card is closed (Blocked), the retry pattern changes: one card was retried after 1, 2, 4 and 7 days; another once a day for 4 days.
Pink Card charges $1 for a declined charge too, but at most 3 declined charges per card per month, so 14 retries still cost $3 at most. What matters is adding money quickly: of the two cards above, the one that was topped up kept its subscription; the other was closed.

How to change the card (Google One steps)

  1. On a computer, open one.google.com and go to Settings.
  2. Click Change payment method. This takes you to Google Play.
  3. In Google Play, open My subscriptions on the left.
  4. Find Google One and click Manage.
  5. Next to Primary payment method, click Update, then pick a card or add a new one.

If the card details are right and the charge still fails, Google suggests checking the expiry date, CVC and billing address (the postal code must match the card’s billing address) under payment methods at payments.google.com, making sure there is enough money, and asking the card issuer why it was declined. With Pink Card, enter the billing address exactly as written in the card email; the decline reason is shown in the card’s transaction history.

Subscribed in the Gemini or Google One app on an iPhone? Then Apple bills it, and the card is changed in your Apple Account subscriptions, not in Google Play.

How much to keep on the card

  • Pink Card takes $1 per successful charge and $2.50 per month from the card balance.
  • Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month: keep at least $20.99. If the renewal falls when the monthly fee is taken, add $2.50.
  • Plans billed in yen or Hong Kong dollars: use the highest dollar amount you have seen (for ¥2,900, $19.34 on our cards) plus $1, and leave a little more for exchange-rate moves.
  • If the same card also pays ChatGPT or Claude, add the amounts together when the renewal dates are close.

Already have a Pink Card: top up the same card

Topping up keeps the same card number, expiry and CVV, so the card saved in Google does not need to be added again; Google’s next retry uses the new balance. A $30 top-up costs $5 + ($30 + $5) × 5% = $6.75 in fees ($36.75 in total). Top-ups usually reach the card within 5–10 minutes of payment.

Pay Google One with a prepaid virtual card (USDT or USDC)

  1. Open pinkcard.cc/en and choose an amount: presets start at $110 ($110, $220, $500, $1000), or enter a custom amount from $100.
  2. Pay with USDT on BEP-20 or ERC-20, or with USDC on ERC-20. Send exactly the amount shown, on exactly the network you picked.
  3. The card number, expiry, CVV and billing address arrive by email about 1–2 minutes after the payment confirms (check spam).
  4. Add the card in Google Play (steps above) with the billing address from the email exactly as written.

Google Play’s help center lists virtual credit cards among payment methods it does not support, so whether a charge goes through depends on Google and the card issuer. We see both successful and declined Google One charges on our cards and cannot promise every charge will go through. Every charge and decline is listed in the card’s transaction history.

Pink Card fees (as of 2026-10-28)

  • Card issuance: $10 one-time, plus a 3% service fee on (card amount + $10). A $110 card costs $123.60, a $220 card $236.90.
  • From the card balance after activation: $1 per transaction and $2.50 per month.
  • Failed authorizations are charged $1 too (at most 3 failed charges per card per month). Reversed charges do not reduce the balance.
  • Top-up of the same card: $5 plus 5% of (top-up amount + $5), minimum top-up $30, usually on the card within 5–10 minutes. Full fee table: pinkcard.cc/en/fees.
  • Once the card details are emailed, the order cannot be cancelled, so double-check your email address before paying.

FAQ

What happens if my Google One renewal payment fails?

Google says there may first be a grace period (0 to 30 days depending on the subscription) where you keep your benefits while Google Play retries. After that the subscription goes into account hold and the benefits stop; if it stays unpaid it may be cancelled. Storage files are not deleted, but you cannot add new ones.

How often does Google retry a failed Google One charge?

On our cards, when the balance was short Google retried about every 12 hours; one card was retried 14 times in 7 days. Once a card was closed, the gaps grew to 1, 2, 4 and 7 days. Add money and wait for the next retry; you do not need to subscribe again.

How do I change the card for Google One?

On a computer: one.google.com → Settings → Change payment method → Google Play My subscriptions → Google One → Manage → Update next to Primary payment method. If you subscribed in an iPhone app, change it in your Apple Account subscriptions instead.

Why is my yen Google One plan a different dollar amount every month?

Plans priced in yen or Hong Kong dollars are converted to US dollars on the day of the charge. On our cards, the same ¥2,900 plan was charged between $18.34 and $19.34 across 5 months. Keep enough for the higher figure.

How much should I keep on the card for Google AI Pro?

$19.99 plus $1 for the transaction fee, so at least $20.99, plus $2.50 if the monthly card fee falls at the same time. Google may place an authorization up to 48 hours before renewal, so have it ready two days early.

Can I pay Google One with USDT?

Not directly. You can buy a prepaid virtual card with USDT (BEP-20 or ERC-20) or USDC (ERC-20) at pinkcard.cc and add it in Google Play.
